It’s officially over: Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen confirm they’ve finalized divorce.
“We’re incredibly grateful to each other,” Bündchen said in a statement on Thursday to CNN. “Tom and I agreed to part ways for very different reasons in 2013. After careful deliberation and discussion, we both realized that we were ready to move in new directions, to pursue our futures the way we wanted to, not the way we had been living our life. We are very excited and grateful for our many, valuable years together.”
“While I’ve learned a great deal from Tom and remain grateful for his contributions to my life, I’d say the biggest change has come from my perspective on life,” Bündchen added. “Working with and for other people can make you better, and that’s something I’ve realized.”
The 38-year-old model said it’s not all about the fashion or the photo ops but “the journey.”
“We made this decision to break up because of what I love — my family, our friends and my clients,” she said. “These are not the reasons why I’ve made this decision. There are more profound reasons that will be revealed later.”
Brady has not commented on the news.
Bündchen, who is not a fan of the press, posted on her own Instagram account after the report — which had been expected — was made public.
“There are things you shouldn’t announce now,” she wrote in the post that said she had shared her news with her two sons but was not ready to talk to anyone. “This is not the reason why I’ve decided to separate from my husband. This is not even the biggest part of our story.”
