Germany’s leading soccer coach says that although some female players have a role in the “perception” of sexualized football, the sexualization of male athletes should not be ignored

Bremen head coach Hansi Flick believes that female players have a role to play in “perceiving” sexualized football, as in making male athletes’ games more bearable.

Flick was questioned about recent allegations of sexual abuse by a former teammate in Germany, the head coach of Borussia Dortmund’s women’s team in question, as well as allegations of a second sexual assault this month by another former team mate.

He defended the women’s team.

“When we are young we need to make sure that female players have a role, and we support them on that,” Flick told CNN’s Don Lemon. “And when we see male athletes, it is important that we don’t ignore the fact that we are also men.

“We have to make sure that we keep our mind and spirit, and not become victims of certain games.”
