Letters to the Editor: Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo, why haven’t you resigned?
I have to take issue every time it comes up that Gil Cedillo, who is very active in the City Hall process for the mayor’s race, and Kevin de León, who is being touted as the one to lead the city to the next level, are, in essence, running against each other.
I would like to see the two of them go head to head. I would like to see Cedillo out of the mayor’s race so that the process can move forward. If he is out of the campaign, then he should be out of this election. It’s a complete waste of the time and effort that Mr. de León has put into this campaign.
If Cedillo leaves the campaign, then the “next level” should come from Kevin de León. To me, that just sounds like the campaign has gotten completely out of hand in my opinion.
Kevin de León has a reputation as a great political organizer – and he has certainly led his campaign on a positive basis.
But now, instead of just being an organizer, he is being made the face of this movement.
Now, if Cedillo leaves the campaign, then the process should go forward without him, which is what I believe will happen.
I think if Kevin de León is out, the campaign just goes back to its boring, vanilla, old-school type campaign that only people can relate to.
One thing is for sure – the campaign for mayor will not be boring, old-school, or vanilla again.
Gil Cedillo is very passionate about city hall and he has made a strong bid to be the next mayor. As a person, I like both of them. But that will only be determined after the vote on Tuesday.
