‘Will & Grace’ stars honor Leslie Jordan: ‘Everyone who ever met him, loved him’
Olivia Wilde and Eric McCormack join Will & Grace cast to celebrate the comedy’s 15th anniversary
The sitcom’s cast — including Olivia Wilde, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally — honored Leslie Jordan at the Will & Grace 15th Anniversary Tribute Gala on Monday, March 31. The event was held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan.
And while the cast took the stage to give speeches honoring the late comedian, we thought we’d take a closer look at the comedian they all bonded with, who died last July of lung cancer at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 52.
“Everyone who ever met him, loved him,” Wilde told the audience. “He was like the coolest guy in the world. I remember one time we were in a coffee shop and he was like ‘I hope you didn’t order a diet coke, because I just had a Diet Coke.'”
McCormack, who played Will’s best friend Jake, recalled that if he needed a favor, he called Leslie right away.
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” he said to Jordan as the crowd cheered. “Thanks for the laughs.”
Sean Hayes, who played the awkward high school teacher who became a close friend of the family upon their friendship’s change, opened up about how he and Jordan became friends. “He was a funny guy with a weird sense of humor, and we both gravitated toward comedy,” he said. “I remember us starting off not being buddies, and we just got closer.”
Debra Messing, who played the wife of the family’s lawyer, also spoke about how she and Jordan became friends. She recalled their first meeting.
“I was meeting my new neighbors,” she said. “I came home and was like ‘Hello, you home? Oh, you live on the same street as us.’ And he goes ‘Yeah, we just met. We went to the same school, but didn’t know each other. We went to the
